Hewitt pulls out of Madrid Masters to focus on Davis Cup

MADRID (Reuters) - Australian Lleyton Hewitt will not take part in any more tournaments this season in order to focus on next month's Davis Cup final against Spain.

Madrid Masters Series organisers said on Thursday that the world number eight would not be at next week's tournament.

"I've got a special feeling for the Davis Cup," Hewitt was quoted as saying on the event's website. "It's not every day that you get to play the final in front of your home crowd and I want to make sure I'm ready for it."

The 2002 Wimbledon champion and former world number one has set his sights on winning the Davis Cup to salvage what has been a mediocre season.

He was part of the Australian team that won the Cup in 1999, although he lost both singles matches in the final against France.

Australia lost to Spain and France in the 2000 and 2001 finals.

Australian Open champion Andre Agassi has also withdrawn from the Madrid tournament.
