'Sania didn't refuse playing with Peer'

Bangalore: Globosport, agents for Sania Mirza, have denied reports that the Indian star refused to play doubles with Israel's Shahar Peer at the Bangalore Open to avoid evoking the wrath of the Muslim community in India.

"There is no truth to this," Sania's spokesperson said on Friday, when asked about a report on an Israeli website saying Sania had decided against partnering Peer so as to not outrage Muslims. The website reported that Peer and Sania, who are friends, were advised against teaming up at last month's Australian Open as well.
