Bridgetown (Barbados), April 23 (IANS) England and the West Indies have been fined for slow over rate during the last Super Eight match of the World Cup.

Match referee Ranjan Madugalle imposed the fine after Michael Vaughan's side was ruled to be two overs short and Brian Lara's side one over short of their targets at the scheduled finish when the time allowances were taken into consideration, during the match at the Kensington Oval Saturday.

In accordance with the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, players are fined five percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

Vaughan was fined 20 percent of his match fee while his players have each received 10 percent fine; Lara lost 10 percent of his match fee and his players have each received five percent fine.

England and the West Indies failed to qualify for the semi-final stage of the World Cup, even though the Englishmen managed a win against the hosts in the last match of the Super Eight stage.
