Indian team's conditioning camp begins in Kolkata

Wednesday May 2, 02:00 PM

Kolkata, May 2 (ANI): The Indian cricket team began a five-day conditioning camp at Kolkata's Eden Gardens here today.

The camp will consist of two sessions - fielding and fitness in the morning and nets in the afternoon, team sources said.

"The pitch condition is good for practice. It's firm and bouncing. So, they will have good practice," said Probir Mukherjee, the curator at the stadium.

Team manager Ravi Shastri, fielding coach Robin Singh, bowling coachentakatesh Prasad and skipper Rahul Dravid inspected the facilities at stadium on Tuesday.

The team is preparing for the ODI series against Bangladesh. The two teams will play three-matches, followed by two Tests.

The national selection committee is keen to give international exposure to some other players to be in a position to determine who will make the grade for the tour of England that begins in June.

Two senior players - Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly - have been "rested" for the one-dayers, but included in the Test team.

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, left-arm seamer Irfan Pathan and pacer Ajitgarkar have been dropped, while opener Virender Sehwag is presently out of favours for the Tests. (ANI)
