Islamabad, May 10 (ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Nasim Ashraf has said that negotiations are on with the outgoing Bangladesh coach, David Whatmore, to take over the job, left vacant by the death of Bob Woolmer.

"PCB is in contact with Whatmore. Our negotiations are underway, and whenever something is finalised, it will be made public," Ashraf was quoted, as saying by the Daily Times.

He went on to say that the PCB has also received applications for the job from coaches of West Indies, England and Australia.

Ashraf added that he could not divulge their names at this moment.

Welcoming the proposal of former skipper Wasim Akram to coach Pakistan without charge, Nasim said, "This is a welcome statement from such a great player and other former players should emulate him".

The PCB had last month posted an advertisement for the job of the national team coach on its website, calling for interested candidates to submit their applications by May 15.

Zakir Khan, Director, Cricket Operations, had said persons applying for the post must possess certain qualifications.

The advertisement said that appointment would be for an initial period of two years, starting from June 2007 and terms and conditions would be negotiable. (ANI)
