Manchester United seek FIFA intervention on Tevez

London, July 18 (IANS) Manchester United chief executive David Gill says the club has asked football's world governing body FIFA to intervene in the Carlos Tevez transfer dispute.

Tevez was in Manchester Tuesday but West Ham United refused permission for him to have a medical at Old Trafford.

Gill said the case would be rushed through by FIFA so that it could be dealt with as soon as possible. West Ham has also asked for the matter to be referred to the world body.

A special 'Dispute Resolution Chamber' is likely be set up by FIFA, possibly within a fortnight, to effectively determine who currently owns the 23-year-old Argentina international striker - West Ham or his agent Kia Joorabchian.

While Manchester United has expressed confidence that Tevez will eventually join the Premiership champions, West Ham are still waiting to receive an offer for the Argentinian.

And the Premier League says a deal must be done between United and West Ham, but not Joorabchian, of Media Sports Investments (MSI), who own Tevez's economic rights.

Under Premier League rules, a player cannot have a medical test unless his club agrees and West Ham will not give formal permission for Tevez's medical until they have been made an offer and accepted it.
