After a month-long tour of Sri Lanka, taking a break is far from India under-19 skipper Tanmay Srivastava's mind.
On his return to India after pulling off victories in the tri-nation and Test series against Sri Lanka, Srivastava has asked his coach and NCA chief Lalchand Rajput to fix him up for a training stint at Bangalore's National Cricket Academy.
Though the Uttar Pradesh lad is delighted with his second victory as skipper, he says he has plenty of time to take a break later.
"There is no point in going back home and resting, so I asked Lalchand sir if I could do some fitness work and practice out there at the NCA," said 18-year-old Tanmay, who has been a consistent performer in the India junior tournaments.
After his UP mate Piyush Chawla went for the Ireland series and India A's tour to Zimbabwe, the Lucknow boy was assigned the role of leading the side for the Sri Lankan series. "It has been a good season so far, but now the coming season will be very crucial for me," he points out.
Though Tanmay got only a few Ranji matches to play in 2006, he is expecting more matches this year. "The responsibility will increase and now it will get really tough. Initially, I never used to care whether I would be in the team or not, but now I'm determined to find a permanent slot," adds Tanmay, who is intending to give more emphasis to fitness and footwork.
When asked about the past Lankan tour, he said: "It was a good tour for us. We played some quality cricket and Bangladesh were a damn good side. The best point was, we came up with some fine individual performances when it was needed the most. Everybody knew what their job was and so my work became much easier."
After his decent show in the under-19 tours, Tanmay is now aiming to score consistently in the coming season. After Mohd. Kaif, Suresh Raina, RP Singh and Piyush Chawla have made it big from the region, everyone in UP is expecting Tanmay to graduate to the senior side soon.
