ASHWIN SUNDER of Team Rams Racing won the fifth round of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship on Sunday. The verdict also helped the 18-year-old local lad to seal the title. Declared the 'Most Valued Performer' of the Championship, Sunder has now won both the Formula Hyundai and Formula Swift categories. Qualifying round winners Aditya Patel of Team NK and Gaurav were penalized 20 seconds each for 'foul start' and they made way for Saahil Shelar (Amaron WSFR), Ajay Kini (Amaron WSFR) and veteran Sarosh Hataria (Prime Racing) for a podium finish in that order. Sunder faced stiff competition from Gaurav Dalal of Team Amaron WSRF, who finished second ahead of Rayomand Banajee of Team Prime Racing. It was a gritty display by the Chennai driver. He had to start ninth and last on the grid after failing to compete in qualifying event, but his never-say-die attitude helped him climb to the third spot at the end of the third lap and in a final burst pushed the other eight drivers behind for a deserving Championship title.
