Colo Colo want coach Borghi to reconsider resignation

SANTIAGO (Reuters) - Colo Colo want coach Claudio Borghi to reconsider after he quit the club on Tuesday, only 48 hours before a Libertadores Cup tie with Boca Juniors.

Borghi, who has led the country's most popular club to four successive Chilean titles, resigned in the middle of a row over bonuses which came to a head on Monday when the players refused to train.

"It's very important for Colo Colo that Borghi continues in the job," said Gabriel Ruiz-Tagle, president of Blanco y Negro (Black and White), the management company which runs the club.

"It's not time for him to leave the club and we will do everything we can to make him put off his decision."

Borghi, who has in the past gone back on threats to resign, confirmed his decision in an interview with Radio Agricultura.

"There are too many things which don't work the way they should, it's not just about these bonuses," said the Argentine.

"There has been a sequence of things which makes one take certain decisions... There's a wear and tear in the relationship which is getting deeper.

Colo Colo, the only Chilean team to have won the Libertadores, beat Boca 2-0 at home last week in Group Three and travel to Buenos Aires for the return match on Thursday.

Colo Colo are second with six points from three games, two more than Boca and one behind leaders Atlas of Mexico.
