Chennai, March 28: South African coach Mickey Arthur doffed his hat off to Virender Sehwag and his blistering 309 not out at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Friday.
"I must admit that the day belonged to Sehwag. It’s an unbelievable knock. I have never seen a Test innings like this. We tried to attack in every possible way — from around the wicket and over the wicket. But Sehwag was unstoppable.
"He played all the shots in the book and he also troubled us with his unconventional strokes. His knock has certainly propelled India get into a strong position," said the coach adding that Friday’s play helped his bowlers learn some valuable lessons.
Arthur said India were in the comfort zone after Sehwag’s innings. He, however, was confident that his side could turn the tide with the second new ball which is due for Saturday.
"I feel a lot of cricket is still to be played. India will try to clinch the match, but our aim is to prevent them from posting a big total. We will sit down and plan what has to be done to stop Sehwag. I believe we have the bowlers who can deliver. After taking the new ball, we are hoping to put them under pressure. The first 15 overs will be crucial," he said.
