•Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the first wicket-keeper and 31st player overall to lead India in Test cricket when he led for the first time in the third and final Test match against South Africa at the Green Park, Kanpur, on Friday (April 11).
•The stumper, who made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Chennai (2005-06), is leading the side after playing 28 Tests.
• At 26 years and 279 days, Dhoni is the fifth youngest Indian captain in Test cricket after MAK Pataudi (21 years and 77 days), Sachin Tendulkar (23 years and 169 days), Kapil Dev (24 years and 48 days) and Ravi Shastri (25 years and 229 days).
•CK Nayudu was the first Indian captain in Test cricket. He led India in four Test matches, lost three and drew one.
•India achieved their first victory under the captainship of Lala Amarnath, who led India in 15 Test matches. India scored an innings-and-eight-run victory over England at Chennai in 1951-52. It was India's 25th Test match.
•Dhoni, who led Indian to victory in Twenty20 World Cup, has also led the side in 22 one-day international games.
•Rahul Dravid moved joint-second in the list of most catches taken in Test cricket when he held an edge off Morne Morkel's bat.
It was his 171st catch in 122 Test matches, equalling New Zealand's Stephen Fleming's catches in 111 Test matches.
Australian Mark Waugh, who took 181 catches in 128 Test matches, holds the record for most catches in Tests.
