Ahmedabad, April 5: Sachin Tendulkar has been ruled out of the third Test against South Africa starting on April 11 at Kanpur. The Mumbai batsman is yet to recover from his groin injury that kept him out of the ongoing second Test. The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed through a media release that Sachin will not be available for selection for the final Test and added that he would continue with his rehabilitation programme.
The decision has been taken to give Sachin the opportunity to make a full recovery from this injury, the release said.
Sachin will be monitored closely by the BCCI medical staff during the rehabilitation programme.
The master blaster did not look fully fit during the first Test in Chennai and missed part of the action on the first, second, fourth days. He did not take field on the fifth day. There were concerns over Tendulkar’s fitness even before the start of the series.
He was advised two-weeks rest after the Australia tour by the then physio, John Gloster, in his fitness report and had warned against the injury entering a chronic phase.
Sachin, however is expected to be fully fit for the inaugural Indian Premier League starting on April 18. The national selection committee under chairman Dilip Vengsarkar will meet here on Sunday to decide the squad for the third Test. Praveen Kumar is tipped to be drafted in place of one of the three seamers who played here.
