Iqbal and Mahmudullah guide Bangladesh to 225-8

Friday April 11, 08:56 PM

FAISALABAD (Reuters) - Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riad steered Bangladesh to 225 for eight against Pakistan in their second one-day match on Friday.

Match officials ended the innings at 48.2 overs after showers stopped play, but not before the visiting batsmen had put up a more spirited display after being crushed by 152 runs in the first match on Tuesday.

Opener Iqbal struck a fluent 60 from 78 balls, including 10 fours, after being dropped on 20, while Mahmudullah in his sixth game made his maiden fifty.

Mahmudullah remained unbeaten on 58 from 74 balls with six fours when the rains came down.

Skipper Mohammad Ashraful led by example, hitting five stunning fours in his cameo 22 from 24 balls after Bangladesh were two down for 31.

Playing in his 115th match, he also became his country's highest one-day run scorer when he went down on one knee and drove pacer Sohail Tanvir through the covers to surpass Habibul Bashar's aggregate of 2,168 runs in 111 matches.
