Mumbai April 15: The Mumbai Indians held their first full practice at the Bandra Kurla Complex ground here on Tuesday with most hands present alongside Sachin Tendulkar. The only absent were Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan Singh.
Shaun Pollock, who has just retired from international cricket, was thrilled about playing for the Indians. He said, "I am very pleased to be a part of this team. There is nothing more I could have asked for. I am enjoying every second of my stay out here."
Pollock feels IPL has a long way to go before making a name for itself. "It is premature to say that IPL will split international cricket. I think one has to give time because it is very new and fresh," said the South African paceman.
Jayasuriya feels that Twenty20 is not just for youngsters because it also requires a whole lot of experience.
"It’s not about fresh legs. We have Sachin, Shaun and myself who are in the mid-30s but we all are fit. Experience counts a lot."said the Matara mauler.
For him, T20 is an exciting concept which could catch on very quickly. "It is a very good and unique concept. Things happen very fast on the field. You have very little time to react. It is very essential to be on your toes throughout the 20 overs otherwise you might end up losing the game."
Pollock, who was all smiles, said cricket had changed a lot from the time he started playing. "Tests were a priority in our day. Twenty20 is given the highest priority now."
