Pedrosa, on a Honda, finished second 3.89 seconds behind Rossi with Australian world champion Casey Stoner third.

Fellow Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo, who qualified fourth on his Yamaha despite suffering a fractured left ankle, came fourth.
