Jinx broken, Chennai look to step on the gas

Saturday May 10, 02:59 AM

Was the Thursday night thriller against Delhi Daredevils a mere flash in the pan or was it the revival of momentum lost in transit after the departure of Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey and Jacob Oram for the Chennai Super Kings? That would be best answered on Saturday when Mahendra Singh Dhoni's boys take on Mohali, a team they had beaten in the first-leg.

To win in the absence of Hussey, the chief architect of their victory last time around, would be the perfect icing on the cake for Chennai as they look to get back on top of the table after their three successive losses pegged them back.

Yuvraj, meanwhile, has a different set of plans. But his biggest priority would be getting a long overdue match-winning innings off his own bat.

The Super Kings batting has looked up after their last match. Dhoni has ben in good touch in the tournament, scoring 229 runs from eight matches, with a strike rate of 145.45.

Other than Dhoni, S Badrinath and Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan have been among runs. The visitors, though, look to have the edge in the bowling department with the pace trio of Irfan Pathan, Sreesanth, VRV Singh, and spinner Piyush Chawla.
