LONDON (Reuters) - England captain Michael Vaughan won the toss and elected to bowl on the opening day of the first test against New Zealand at Lord's on Thursday.
England retained the side who defeated the Kiwis in Napier this year to win their last series 2-1.
Paceman Iain O'Brien was omitted from the New Zealand XI. Batsmen Aaron Redmond and Daniel Flynn will make their test debuts.
Rain delayed the start of play by 80 minutes.

Umpires: Steve Bucknor (West Indies) and Simon Taufel (Australia).
