South Africa came out firing on all cylinders but could not sustain their initial onslaught once they lost their first wicket. Australia tightened the screws around the South Africans who succumbed to the pressure and were all out for 294 and lost by 83 runs while chasing 378 runs. Smith and De Villiers started positively but Smith retired hurt at an important stage and the South Africans lost their momentum. For Australia Shaun Tait, Hogg and Bracken picked up the wickets.
