| The Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit made its return to the Formula One calendar in 2000, staging the first U.S Grand Prix in 10 years. The Indianapolis track is in the record books for holding the oldest automobile race in the US way back in 1909. The track later went on to become host to the Indianapolis 500 in 1911. One will remember the 2002 GP at Indianapolis as Michael Schumacher allowed Rubens Barrichello to take the race-win, milli-seconds before the chequered flag went down as the duo attempted to register a dead heat. The event controversially went down as the closest finish in F1 history with only 0.010 seconds separating the two Ferrari team-mates. The controversies continued in 2005 when all Michelin run teams withdrew from the race leaving only 6 cars to take the start. The farcical race was Michael Schumacher's only win of the season. Schumacher won the event in 2006 as well, and with the German missing from this year's grid - Barrichello starts with the advantage of being the only driver to have won here before. |
