Batting first, Scotland made the same mistake other teams had done when put in to bat; they went for their shots. And before they knew it, they had been reduced to 15/4 and were always on the backfoot from then. At 8/83, it all seemed over, but the last two wickets put on 53 runs to take the Scots to 136. Totally inadequate, but considering the Dutch bowling performance, the Scots would have harboured some hopes.

Much was expected of the Scottish bowling with a few County players in their ranks, but Bas Zuiderrent and ten Doeschete had other ideas. A fiery start got the Netherlands to 37/2 in just the sixth over, but they were actually in danger of collapsing if the same approach in batting continued. Of course Doeschete didn’t seem to care, but Zuiderrent slowed down and was content to play the secondary role as the two put on 103 runs for the third wicket and took the Dutch to victory.
An eight-wicket win over Scotland is perhaps just the boost needed for Holland to show the world that they do belong here and can play well. With some more experience, they definitely could be the next Ireland. With players like Mark Jonkman still just 21, the future looks good. They just need to ensure they get some quality experience under their belt… perhaps the County circuit would be a good idea.
As for Scotland, this was their best chance of a win but they blew it badly. Dougie Brown and Blain are County players but it didn’t show in their performance. To be beaten in the manner they were signals a need to return to the drawing board. The tournament ends here for both teams and while they could not provide an upset, they did offer moments that hold much promise. It’s now up to them to deliver on it sooner than later.

On whether he was conscious of Luk's motives on the eve of the match
"It was in the air, but I didn't know about it until 10 minutes before the start of the warm-up."
On Luk's future as the skipper of Netherlands
"I think he was planning to make this his last tournament, and it's a sad thing that he couldn't finish it off on the field," Smits said. "That's Luuk, he's too straightforward, very honest."
Scotland Captain, Craig Wright
On his team, loosing all the matches of the group stage
"I'm slightly embarrassed, to be honest, We set out to come here and show that we're a decent cricket team, which we are, but we haven't done that."
