Cricket World Cup Magic Moments
1975 World Cup - West Indies vs Australia Final

Australia v West Indies 1975 World Cup
Pigs and the lot!

It had been a tense final and Australia was making a match chasing 292. Things were not looking too good and it was up to the last wicket pair of Lillee and Thomson to take Australia to victory. Dennis Lillee was on strike and Australia needed another 20-odd to win. Van Holder was the bowler and as Lillee launched into an extra cover drive but all he managed to do was hit it straight to Roy Fredericks who completed the catch. The crowd thought the match was over and ran on to the ground.

What most of them had missed, though, was a no-ball call! Lillee and Thomson didn't miss it and continued to run. Fredericks had managed to regroup himself and in an attempt to run out the batsmen, threw the ball at the stumps but the crowd was coming in so fast, that the ball was lost in their midst!

Lillee and Thommo ran a few runs but once the ground was cleared and the umpires had consulted amongst themselves, they decided to award only two runs! An upset Thomson cried "Pig's arse!" and as a result, the umpires gave them another run!

Soon after, Thomson was to be run out and the West Indies won by 17 runs! This was a moment of comedy, though, that not many will forget!
